Finding a good tailor in Thailand won’t be easy, but it will be possible. Here are my suggestions:
(1) Do not enter any shop that has touts out front. A tout out front is a sure sign of worse pressure inside. They normally get some kind of commission on your deal
2) Do not follow recommendations from taxi drivers or bellboy. They can’t afford tailor-made clothes, so they don’t know quality or value. But they will get a commission, which you will pay in the price of your order.
(3) Select a tailor inside a 5-star hotel. If a tailor shop is dodgy, it won’t last very long in the hotel.

After visiting so many shops in downtown Bangkok with people harassing you to get in, the shop i recommend, Excelsior, was much different from the others, with no harassment or pushy sales.
Excelsior Tailor is certainly not the cheapest tailor around – but he does appear to be one of the best. I’ve always been impressed with the business ethics of the Sikh community, and this outfit is no different.
It took me two fittings, and I was very pleased with the final result. They have a pile of magazines in the shop, and the style can come from just about any range imaginable from Amarni to YSL. They also do women’s clothes as well. Nice people.
The price was reasonable for the quality and they give professional fittings. The Shop owner Mr Sunny has had famous clients including Elijah Wood from the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
I would surely recommend Excelsior Tailor in Bangkok since they are well established with four branches in Bangkok itself.

I was recommended to this place by a buddy of mine in the UK. This tailor had visited him on their bi-annual visiting tailor trips to Europe. I missed the opportunity as it was during my wedding and I was super busy - anyways, I came on my honeymoon to Bangkok and checked them out. I got 3 Suits and a dozen shirts made and were extremely happy with their service. The guy that looked after me is a sikh man name Aron!! He made me feel royal and my wife really loved the fit of the suits he made. She's not letting my buy suits anywhere else. Anyways, just wanted to pass on the word as I was lucky to be recommended to this tailor!!

When I started planning my trip to Bangkok to get my clothes tailored, I did not expect the place to be filled with tailors. Literally, they were everywhere, and most of them were trying to drag me into their shops.

So out I went, walking into several tailor shops, not liking any, until I finally decided to duck into one just because I saw another foreigner coming out of it. This one was smaller; more cluttered and had a more workman like look to it, which seemed to be a good sign. Similar sales pitches were heard, but this time, it seemed like if I bought or not, it didn’t matter, as long as I was there. He asked me to quote him a price, which I did, but this only got me to one section of the materials, so I asked him for his best stuff, and he gave it to me for just 9000 Baht, an amazing $225. So I was satisfied and what I liked best was he never once uttered a word of annoyance as he pulled our roll after roll of material for me to choose and told me that the suit would take time to do and not just 24 hours, which was exactly what I was looking for.

I came back for the fitting about a day and a half later, and the fitting was perfect already, just some minor changes which he joyfully did for me. He then asked me to come to pick it up the evening after, but I didn’t have time, so he offered to deliver the clothes to my hotel, which to my joy, came on time and he was even there waiting for me to try it on for any other problems, which were none of course.

Best thing now is that he has my measurements, and I can just mail him when I want to get a suit, shirt or pant done up. Awesome service I reckon. The shop that got me my long lasting suits: Crown Tailor, inside Sukhumvit Road soi 8, www.crowntailor.com sam@crowntailor.com

Tips: Make sure you tell the tailor what you want, and he'll offer you the materials. Make sure you have time for fittings. It’s best to have 1, maybe 2 fittings to be sure that your suit is made to perfection. Never go into the tailor shops that say 24 hours the suit can be ready. If it is ready in 24 hours, then that’s what the suit will look like. It’s not going to be worth the money you paid for it.

When I started planning my trip to Bangkok to get my clothes tailored, I did not expect the place to be FILLED with tailors. Literally. They were everywhere, and most of them were trying to drag me into their shops. Rajawongse was one of the better shops in Bangkok, supposedly, but I soon found out it wasn’t. The place was easy to find along Sukhumvit Road. Inside an employee immediately came up to me, offered me bottled water and started a smooth sales pitch. I finally asked him the price, and there were too many zeros after the number. He was charging me 15000Baht for my suit! So out I went, walking into several tailor shops, not liking any, until I finally decided to duck into one just because I saw another foreigner coming out of it. This one was smaller; more cluttered and had a more workman like look to it, which seemed to be a good sign.
