Horseback Riding

We went horse riding on a trip arranged by our hotel. Getting to the horse ranch was a mission in itself through some of the bumpiest roads ever but we finally reached the horses. Our guides were pretty good asking us all our ability and trying to match us up with horses to suite. My step dad has never ridden and practically got a pony which was hilarious as he looked huge in comparison.

I would recommend this as a good way to see some of the real Dominican as you actually get to see locals and the shatty style villages they live in. It's very easy somewhere like this not to venture form the all inclusive resort and see any of the real people but this is a good way of doing so and the local children love to come out and see the horses. There are some great sites and there is one amazing view from the top of a hill down towards the sea. The ride itself takes a morning in total and it can get pretty hot and uncomfortable but it is worth it.

Paradise Island Sights & Attractions

Paradise Island is a fab little island in the middle of nowhere that you could walk round in a few minutes. I was staying in Puerto Plata and took a trip organised by my hotel. We were picked up in a coach and driven through the area for about an hour and a half before reaching our speed boat. We got to stop and paddle for a bit, get a drink and go to the loo before speeding through the water, wind in our hair, salt in our faces. As we approached paradise island I thought, is this it? It is tiny with 4 little huts run by tour operators. It get quite busy so don't expect the quiet life but it is beautiful and gives a true sense of being in the middle of the deep blue sea. Tour operators provide snorkeling equipment and drinks and there are some really good sights to be had hear - the fish are incredible. We stayed on the island for a few hours before jetting back across. We then headed to a restaurant hut where lunch was provided. Lunch is typical rice and meat affair of the region but was good and filling. We really enjoyed the trip and met some other people who were staying near us that we paired up with for the rest of our trip.
