My usual preference between Wal-Mart and KMART is Wal-Mart but that is not the case in Bennington. The Wal-Mart there is a renovated retail store that has changed hands many times. It was redone and a new plaza was built adjacent to introduce a Price Chopper. A new Wendy's was built on a pad site in front of Wal-Mart. However the Wal-Mart is dirty inside and out and not well laid out at all. The aisles are always cluttered. The eatery (Subway) is toward the back instead of the front as you come in. It was dark and not inviting at all. The bathrooms are near the eatery but you actually walk into a stockroom entry area to have access to them. They are dirty and not stocked properly. This was neither my first visit nor my first time with this impression. We ate at Wendy's for a quick bite and were very disappointed with the kids running it and their lack of training and the food that they served us. We were still sure that this was a better choice than the Subway inside Wal-Mart.
The KMART on the other hand (which is also in an older plaza) is clean and the aisles are spacious, uncluttered and the layout is as good as any I have seen if not better. It is in a plaza with a JC Penny as well as some small specialty stores and a Burger King. We have eaten there several times and it is fine for a Burger King. Next time I am sure I will be going to KMART when in Bennington, not Wal-Mart.
