Description: Yellowstone's Upper Falls could be one of the park's least appreciated natural wonders. It is located in Canyon Country just outside Canyon Village. The Yellowstone River originates from the Yellowstone Lake and flows down into the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone by flowing over 2 massive waterfalls. The first waterfall is Upper Falls which is an unbelievable 109 feet and the second is Lower Falls at a thundering and pounding 308 feet.
Upper Falls has an observation area that is a short 1/4 of a mile down a paved walkway (with steps & handrails). This observation area is immediately overlooking the brink of the falls and you also have a great view of the Yellowstone River flowing rapidly downstream to create the beautiful Upper Falls.
Perhaps one of the best places to fully appreciate Upper Falls is at the Uncle Tom's trailhead on Artist Point Road. There is a huge parking lot and an observation point just a short distance away. From this point you get a spectacular and unblocked view of Upper Falls.
There are restrooms available at both of these viewing spots.
