Local Secrets, Big Finds 2007 Pick

If you're looking for something "beautiful, peaceful, and with a lot of interesting history to it" the "amazing" Adirondack Museum is "like a Smithsonian on hundreds of acres," and comprises some 20 buildings on 32 acres with "stupendous views." The museum "captures all aspects of the park" and even features some of the "famous summer cottages from the Great Camps of the Vanderbilts." If you stop to explore this "fascinating" place, you'll be rewarded with "a few of the remaining examples of classic turn-of-the-century Adirondack style." www.travelocity.com/localsecrets

The Adirondack Museum is about a 30 min drive from Long Lake, and if you are visiting the Adirondacks it is definitely a must see. The museum is really great for kids, but is also very interesting for adults.

Great exhibits on guide boats, the history of the Adirondack Park, famous residents, and so on.

Admission is $15 for adults, and $8 for children. However, if you purchase a membership admission is always free for up to two adults and two children, and its a great way to help support and preserve the history of the area.

The museum gift shop is great too, it has lots of great local crafts and interesting books.
