Bellagio Conservatory

Glass flowers in the lobby of the Bellagio lead to real flowers in the conservatory, a glass-domed botanical garden that contains a butterfly cage, trees, and floral displays, which are changed seasonally. When we visited there were a number of flower sculptures in the shape of snails and ladybirds.

It is free to visit and a good place to recharge your batteries before heading back to the casino or Strip. Even if you are no gardener (like me) you’ll still appreciate the colour, variety, and beauty of the plants.

Bellagio Lobby Ceiling

The brochure of the Bellagio, Steve Wynn’s recreation of an Italian villa by Lake Como, describes the hotel as “Where beauty meets luxury”. Now, as we weren’t staying there, I can’t comment on the rooms or private areas, but the public spaces certainly lived up to that description.

Created by the American artist Dale Chihuly, the ceiling of the lobby is decorated with 2000 hand-blown glass flowers in a mixture of vibrant shades—the Fiore di Como. They look so delicate, like multicoloured brandy-snap baskets, and the light shines through them with a wonderful translucent effect.

Apparently each of the 2000 flowers are different, so why not sit down on one of the velvet sofas, look upwards, and start counting. 2000, 1999, 1998, etc.

Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Garden

Inside of the Bellagio Hotel there are many neat things to fascinate tourist’s interests. My favorite place within the Bellagio is their conservatory. The conservatory consists of a 14,000 square foot room full of living plants, trees and flowers done up to make wonderful displays representing the different seasons and Chinese New Year. Only three trees are permanent fixtures in the conservatory which means everything is replaced when the next exhibit rotates. The floors are made out of small intricate mosaic marble tiles that make up various images throughout the pathways. The outside light filters in from above the conservatory through beautiful etched glass ornamented by decorative green wrought iron. The ambiance within the conservatory usually makes me feel as if I were visiting a Royal Palace and their immaculate grounds.

This year when I visited the conservatory it was much different than it has been in the years past, instead of the focal point being flowers and fountains it was hand made miniature wood buildings with a few trees and plants. There were many different miniature wood structures to see which included replicas of: the Washington D.C. Capital Building, Bellagio Hotel, Smithsonian Castle, Lincoln Memorial, Three Little Pigs Village and of course many others. Train tracks outlined many of these buildings which provided visitors with the feeling that they were overlooking villages and other scenic American destinations.

The conservatory itself requires a staff of 129 to keep it maintained and constantly redesigned. The flowers within the displays have to be watered and changed out continuously in order to keep the displays looking bright and fresh. The Bellagio also has a 27,000 square foot greenhouse on their property which is used as a staging area for their upcoming masterpieces.

In conclusion, the conservatory is a peaceful place to visit and a wonderful place to take remarkable pictures of the amazing work that is on display in Vegas without admission fees.

Bellagio Conservatory and Fountains

The fountains at the Bellagio are a must see, they have several shows that they do on a rotating basis. We caught glimpses a couple of times from the bus on the strip, but the best time was from the balcony overlooking the fountains and the music, water and lights dancing in unison like a beautiful ballerina. Before I mention the conservatory the lobby must be reviewed. Suspended from the ceiling are big beautiful blown glass flowers, they appear to just hang in space and they are colorful, bright and absolutely breathtaking. The conservatory was decorated in Autumn design with big leaf fountains and ducks and a scarecrow made out of flowers, there was also a mill with water and more flowers than I have ever seen in my life, everywhere we looked there were beautiful fall colored flowers and we just stood in awe of the beauty.
