Description: Concerning bass fishing, we both tried several times(like many other anglers did that day) to catch a certain bass that was protecting her nest in shallow water. Sharon and I both actually hooked this bass but it got off before we could land it.
Sharon hooked it on a red color ,wide gap hook, size 4 made by Eagle Claw with a minnow, but it got off. It shook its head back and forth and spit the hook out. Then later, I tried to catch her with the same type of rig. While I was bringing her in, she did the common acrobatic move that bass do and jumped up in the air and got off. Finally, two hours later a young man (in his early 20s) caught this bass on a small rooster tail, which is a lure used for trout.
I offered to weigh this bass for him and measure it but I forgot my scale at home. Therefore, all I could do was measure it for him. The fish measured almost 18 inches long. I am guessing it was over three pounds, since I recently caught a 19 inch one that was 3 pounds, 12 ounces. This young man was elated at his catch. You could tell he wasn’t an everday angler for at least bass. I mean, he used a trout lure for it. I was happy for him in catching this bass.
If anyone I wanted to catch this bass besides us, it would have been him. This was because he appeared to be such a novice and was so excited that he had his girlfriend run quickly over to examine it (and she was located on the side of the lake). After she joined him, they abruptly left with the fish.
