I took a fantastic hot air balloon ride from Bailey Balloons. We took off from their Thornbury launch site, and flew over the countryside for about an hour. It was just stunning! I'd driven through Cheddar Gorge before, which was beautiful itself, but seeing it from the air was even more amazing than I would have imagined.

It was my first hot air balloon ride, so I didn't really know what to expect. A small group of us met at the launch site, and watching the balloon get ready for the flight was fascinating, and they were wonderful about explaining everything when someone had a question. The flight took about an hour, and then there was a champagne toast when we landed, and they delivered us back to the launch site.

It was a lovely way to spend an evening, and I'd recommend it to anyone (so long as you've not got a fear of heights!). They even said they give flight lessons! I don't know if I'm up for that, but I've taken other balloon rides since then, and have even more planned for later in the summer.
