Description: This boat ride was not only beautiful but so much fun. My husband and I sail, but we've never sailed on a tall ship. The crew said that they have weddings on board just about every weekend. The boat sets its sails after leaving the dock at Waterside Marina in downtown Norfolk. The cruise we took was the 3-hour sunset cruise that goes to the naval base. The other shorter cruises do not go all the way to the naval base. The boat has a top deck and space below deck with a ship store that sells snacks and drinks. The boat has two clean restrooms and the crew were all very nice. Some of the passengers wanted to help raise sails and children were allowed to steer the boat. The boat has five red sails that are usually set, and it is a beautiful sight from the shoreline. Everyone on land stopped to watch the boat sail by. We saw many sights on this cruise and got to watch the sunset. We were allowed to bring our own small meals on board, and the boat served drinks like champagne and beer.
We would recommend this cruise for a relaxing evening. It is not a stressful narrative cruise at all. If you just want to enjoy a sail and see some sights while in Norfolk, go on the American Rover cruise. Making reservations is recommended but not required. It's definitely a memorable cruise.
