Nite market: Operates around 4pm onwards till late, and covers a few blocks. Most of the items are handmade goods; like beaded clothes, bags and shoes, immitation goods, food, accessories, etc. The prices are more expensive than in Bangkok, and some goods are slightly more expensive compared to Malaysia even after the 60% discount, but is a great place to browse and try to get a good bargain.
Warorot Market: Across the road from the end of the night bazaar. It is a day-time market. It consists of selling clothes, bags, native local goods, food, flowers and textile. clothes are cheap but kind of outdated. Not much a bargain. Food is unique and cheap. A bunch of plums cost only 20Bht. The lychee and longan preserved (Sweet & Sour savory) is most recommeded to buy, and costs only 30bht (Longan) and 70bht (Lychee). The taste is just right, and a type of worm is packed nicely to be ready to eat for 100bht. It tastes very nice, if you can overcome your fear. Great place to browse around.
Airport Plaza: More of an upscale shopping area., but the items are more trendy, and of course more expensive. Clothes, shoes, wood carving, etc. A good place to just browse, and it costs only 30bht to get there using the no air-conditioning "taxi" not a tuktuk.
Kad Suan Kaew Shopping Mall: The Kaew pronounce as "Kiaw." The retail items are as trendy as Airport Place, and there is even more variety. Surprisingly, the price is reasonable (same as retail price when you buy one piece only in Bangkok), which cost 199Bht onwards. Clothes, shoes, etc. Even better, as there are dressing rooms here so you can try things for size and effect. There is a supermarket, so you can browse the items. I love the Qing Strawberry Green Tea and Dried Chilli Powder--it is tasty and extremely HOT. A great place to browse and shop.
These places are more or less the shopping places in Chiangmai. Not much...but it has unique items that are more hard to find in Bangkok.
