A Definite Favorite!

Visited this beach twice, most recently this past February and look forward to the next time. The February trip was centered around days at the beach, and being in the middle of an Ohio winter, it could not have been a better choice. Staff is extremely nice and justifiably proud of their beach club and there's a choice of restaurants, from a take-out window to sit-down places, and except for avoiding the pizza (it's typical bar-grease frozen pizza, enjoy the yummy fish and chicken dishes instead), I have no cons and should have known better anyway! You can also bring in some meat pies and chips for a super cheap and tasty meal. One of the guards shared starfruit with us and snacking on that while looking out at the water=fantastic! Gorgeous water, surrounding views and sand, and some of the best people-watching ever (I got some great stories just dozing on my towel and keeping the eyes and ears open). I had way too much fun just listening in on the lifeguard's perspective on events too; they don't miss a thing. When the cruise ships come in, the beach gets very crowded with folks trying to carouse as much as possible for their few-hour stay and the craft sellers and hair braiders appear, but this all makes for just that much more fun stuff to see and watch, and when the cruise guests depart, the beach is serene and quiet again. This is a safe, secure, well-maintained beach that also happens to be a jewel. Unless you are very tolerant of hot sun, rent umbrellas (and frequently reapply your SPF 50). It's cheap and you'll be glad you did, and if a gust of wind threatens to take your umbrella, a very kind staffer appears and resecures it instantly. Such a great place to laugh, swim, relax, chill, daydream and be glad to be alive. This beach loves me and I love this beach.

Doctor's Cave

Colloquially called MoBay by the locals, Jamaica's thriving port city is also its most important tourist resort. This is where the rich, young , beautiful and mostly European crowd gather to frolic in the sun without a care in the world. You will also be serenaded by fantastic reggae bands during a great seafood lunch at many of the restaurants by the beach.

Doctor's Cave is a beautiful beach. The cost to enter is no more than $5. The beach was renovated about 3 years ago and looks great. You can shop, go to the Internet cafe, have a light snack, drink, and dinner. At 5:30pm they start setting up for dinner and a beach party. The beach is located on the main strip. Also, you can swim out to a trampoline and sunbathe if needed. This is a nice beach.

Doctor's Cave Beach

With food in bag and towel in hand, I nestled myself under the terrace roof and my feet into the hot sand--in the early morning.

Doctor's Cave Beach is a small beach that is used by mostly tourist and few locals. It is nestled on Gloucester Avenue, right beside the Sandal resort.

They have scuba diving lessons off two long piers that project into the water, and I found myself relaxing and watching the water in the morning and late evening here. It's a crowded beach by mid-day, so if you're looking for space, I wouldn't recommend it at all.

I liked it in the early morning and late evening. There weren't many people around, and I like beaches where there is space!

The beach is clean, and there is a nice terrace to sit on and look over the beach. I sat there when I couldn't spot a place to sit on the beach!

The charge is about $4 to use the beach, and you won't be charged for the day. They have noodles and boards for children. Umbrellas and chairs can be rented, too.

It's easily accessible if you're staying on the Gloucester Avenue strip, so check it out and be prepared to share sand!

Doctor's Cave Beach

Most cruise ships offer shore excursions to different beaches. We had heard that Doctor’s Cave Beach was surprisingly nice, considering it was more or less right in town, so we decided to take the bus from the dock. Our bus driver pointed out some highlights as we drove—our favorite was Jamaica’s free hotel—free food and accommodation, mon.

Although not a large beach, Doctor’s Cave Beach is close to town and a lovely place to spend a day. Upon arrival, you pay at the booth for your admission, chairs and umbrella. Immediately there is someone to fetch these items and put them up where you would like. The umbrellas are red, blue and yellow and make a lovely picture from the terrace which runs along the beach. The chairs are also colorfully striped but they are horribly uncomfortable and cannot be adjusted to do anything but sit up in.

There is a building at one end of the beach where one can rent a variety of water craft such as jet skis, but walk beyond that area and you are immediately accosted by locals trying to sell jewelry and drugs.

The water is warm, but the beach slopes quite rapidly after the first couple of feet—not ideal for little kids. About thirty feet from shore are three enormous trampolines and these were a popular spot to swim to and then sun on or otherwise goof around on depending on your age.

There were bathrooms, change facilities and lockers, also several places to get food. You could also order food and drinks right from your little oasis on the sand.
