Don't Take This Cruiseline!

My fiance and I took a trip with our cousins (9 of us) on this cruise line (on the Norwegian Sky ship), and it was horrible! We thought it would be like other cruises- Good food 24 hours, nice pool, reasonably priced drinks, etc. - well were we in for a surprise. The food was really not that good, there were certain hours (so several times we had to wait to eat), they lost power on the ship overnight and didn't accommodate at all as far as food and water that night/next day, they charged "extra" for anything they could ($5 for a small bottle of water, which you had to buy, even at dinner, because the water they served/had tasted like it came from the toilet), I was bit up by some sort of bugs while sitting in one of their lounges watching a show (had to enjoy looking like I had chicken pox all over my legs and dealing with the itch, although they did suggest I buy their $17 bug spray to use; hmmm...guess I should have planned for that, silly me to not expect a bug infestation on the ship)! Lots of problems, lots of money spent, lots of headaches! Take another cruise-line!!!

Awesome Day at the Beach

I highly encourage everyone to spend the day at the beach. It is great to get off the ship and spend some time on land. We got the first tender out to the island and walked to the far end of the beach, which worked out great because it was almost an hour before we had people around. The only downside to going far away from the main area is being far from the food and bathrooms.

The music provided was both live and recorded and added greatly to the atmosphere. The meal provided from the cruise line was good, especially considering they had to cart it all out and set it up.

When we were there it rained for about 2 minutes, and the clouds gone in 5. Lots of people rushed to the tender to get off the island, which just left it roomier for the rest of us.

Good sand and good loungers. There is an area to swim and snorkel. Don't forget your sunscreen, towels, and something to read.

NCL's Private Island

As you waken with the sunrise, you see the ship approaching two small islands. Out come the binoculars for a closer look as we enjoy cappuccino on our balcony—two "people movers" are heading toward the "Spirit".A nice view of a small cove with clear green water, chairs and umbrellas waiting for the sun worshippers. At 8am we get the "go-ahead" sign and the transfers begin. The lobby is set up to sell you anything you may need—sunglasses, hats, lotion, cover-ups, snorkeling masks and cameras. Pick up your towels and board the ferry for a 5 minute ride—easy-on easy-off access. This is quite an undertaking for NCL. All food and drinks are brought ashore and later removed. The first few ferries are half full. Everyone smiling and staking claim to the perfect seat—front row lounges with umbrellas. By 9:30am, full ferries are arriving. People rush off, pulling their kids along "on a mission" they need to get one of the few remaining prize locations!! By 11am it's like Jones Beach on Long Island, NY on a 96°F Sunday afternoon!!Great Stirrup Cay is your private island for the day with plenty to do—the cove is protected so the water is calm, the sandy beach has plenty of chairs and umbrellas but very few lounges and everyone wants a front row seat. Remember the great location you claimed at 8am, well… now there are chairs and towels all the way to the water line and the tide is coming in!! Hammocks and picnic tables further back provide another shady option, appealing more to the older guests. A band plays all afternoon, bars are set up selling beer, drinks and smoothies. Snorkeling equipment, floaties and family size fun floats are for rent. The floats are floats are $10, family size are $20, and $29 for snorkel equipment (better off to buy a it on-board for $14.95).You can snorkel from shore or take a free guided tour every hour. A couple of rays were spotted early before the crowds came. If snorkeling—do so early, since the visibility gets rather cloudy with 1500 playing in the water.A small local crafts market is set up, everything but this can be charged to your account—massages $15 for 15 minutes, para sailing $79 per person for a tandem ride and hair braiding with a per braid charge. A barbecue is set up with burgers, dogs, chicken and pizza along with a choice of salads, veggies, rice, beans, fruit and cake for dessert. It's a fun beach day for everyone. By noon a few people are headed back and the boats become more full as the afternoon wears on. All aboard at 5pm with lots of sunburns!!!. It was a fun day, very crowded but as I write this review I'm smiling and wishing I were there instead of here in the drizzly wet weather.
