The Swamp Fox's Tomb

If you have time, you can hunt down the tomb of Francis Marion, "the Swamp Fox." This is who the movie "The Patriot" is based on. It’s a bit of a drive (about an hour drive north of Charleston, west of the city of Pineville), but if you’re a history nut, it’s well worth the drive. He's buried in a little family cemetery off a very small side road. Once through the gates, you drive back on a very narrow one-lane road for a mile to the tomb, which is in the woods of the old Belle Isle Plantations and very well maintained.
