Gatineau Park is located on the Quebec side of Ottawa and is just a five minute car ride from the city centre.
We visited in April and there was still quite a bit of snow and ice on the ground so many of the trails were not open which prevented us from exploring fully. However the areas we were able to get to were beautiful.
We stopped off at first at the info centre and collected some guides etc. We spoke to the guy in store and he told us which trails were accessible and whcih weren't.
We first took the trail directly behind the info centre which goes over a river and into a large wooded area. As you will see from my photos the trail still had a lot of snow on the ground.
This trail is about 2km long and easy to navigate. Toilets are available at the info centre entrance which is at the beginning and end of the trail.
Next we drove along a road which follows the edge of the Meech Lake, the largest lake in the park. The views were beautiful and the lake pristine. I can definitely recommend traveling this road. There are several stop offs to park the car and take a closer look at the lake.
Several areas include picnic sites and even beaches. It was a little too cold for us to take full advantage of these but I can imagine it being very busy in the summer months and for good reason.
Gatineau Park is somewhere I will definitely revisit in the future and I can recommend a visit, even in the winter months.
