Description
This fortlet, situated in Mount La Mira, was built at the same time as the Fortress of San Diego. Its purpose was to serve as storage for the gunpowder and ammunition used by the main fort, thus keeping the danger of storing these goods, away from the main building. Next to this building we find another two small constructions: the watchman's house and the foundry. Fortín Alvarez is a good sample of colonial architecture. But unfortunately, the fort and its surroundings have fallen in disrepair. However, it is worth visiting for its historical importance to the city.
