The intermediate stuff is also well marked appropriate for any intermediate parallel skier.
The beginners’ area is far off to the right of the main mountain, which is good for both beginner and advanced skiers alike, keeping them away from each other.
They have what many claim to be the deepest snow cover in the area, and I have seen no reason to doubt this claim, the snow has been excellent any time I have gone.
I am an upper-level intermediate skier who sometimes ventures onto the black diamonds and always visits this resort when in Tahoe for skiing -- I love it. It is not as well publicized as some of the others, and sometimes tends to be less crowded. Given that it is only 35 miles from South Lake Tahoe with all of its fun and action, I see no reason to stay at Kirkwood, but it makes an excellent and worthwhile short day trip from South Lake.

Crowds were minimal with no meaningful waits on weekdays or weekends. It's about a 50 minute ride from South Lake Tahoe - and avoid Route 50 in and out of the Lake area. Use Pioneer Trail to get around the stop lights and congestion when going to and from Kirkwood.

Skiers enjoy amazingly perfect conditions, runs for all levels. This place is huge! The base elevation is 7,800 feet with a verticle rise of 2,000.
