Emerald Bay D.L. Bliss State Park

An incredible place, just a few minutes from the busy city of Lake Tahoe, CA.

We were driving around the lake, counter clockwise, starting at Lake Tahoe. It was a very nice ride until we found this place, we got stunned at the view from the parking lot. We climbed a little hill and spend the next 15 minutes just enjoying the wonderful vista. The previous days had been snowing and the mountain at our back was completely white with fresh snow, and suddenly my niece spotted a waterfall not far from where the parking lot. We couldn´t resist its spell, and made the hike through the snow. It was fun to fall in the holes of fresh soft snow, and it was very gratifying to reach that small cascade—what a view!!!

Too bad we arrived late in the afternoon and didn´t knew there were tables to hold a picnic, otherwise it would have been an excellent spot to spend a couple or more hours, even then, it was the highlight of our trip around the lake.
Go for it.

Emerald bay is one of many beautiful jewels at Tahoe. This is a great place to take photos, of both the bay and Eagle Falls. You can hike up Eagle falls and explore many trails in the Desolation Wilderness area. If you plan to hike past the bridge, be sure to fill out the Wilderness Entry form. This is a somewhat tough hike if your climb all the way up the falls. There are lots of boulders to climb up. Once on the ridge, you'll see several alpine lakes and witness a different view of Lake Tahoe. There is a great loop trail that will drop you off about 1/2 mile from Eagle Falls. Look for the maps at the trail head and just have fun!! Be sure to wear proper shoes as this is a somewhat technical hike.
