Imagine:

a book festival
an arts festival
a music festival
a tv festival
formal concerts and operas from the whole world
informal theatre groups and solo acts from the whole world
street theatre and entertainment

all at ONE time

THAT is the Edinburgh Festival. It is a lie folks, it is a BATTERY of Festivals all to entertain you!

And at a budget to suit whatever you can afford.

Edinburgh Festival Fringe

Every August, people from all over the world flock to Edinburgh for the annual Edinburgh International Festival and its spawn, the Festival Fringe. While the International Festival hosts opera, dance, and theater performances fit for a king, the Fringe allows amateurs and newcomers a chance to show their talents. I usually take my chances with the Fringe shows with surprisely good results. Mostly comedy shows, these can be a hit or miss. They run from the hilarious to the obscene to the bizarre to the surreal. Street performers can be found by the dozens along the street. Fringe Sunday, usually held at Holyrood Park, gives the performers a chance to showcase their talent and persuade tourists to go see their shows. It's a great day to get some culture and try a hike up Arthur's Seat (hill adjacent to the park) for fabulous views of the city.
