Denver Museum of Nature and Science

It has three stories. There are exhibits on dinosaurs, oceans, Africa, and more. There is even a planetarium where I got to see a film on Cosmic Collisions and an IMAX theater where I watched a film on Africa. This is the largest Natural History Museum in the United States. I enjoyed my day at the Denver Museum of Natural History and Science.

The Nature and Science Museum features 8 permanent exhibitions as well as rotating exhibitions, a planetarium and an IMAX theatre. The discovery zone has a lot of kid friendly activities that are hand on. The museum's Egyptian Mummies exhibition features 2 mummies that help to increase the viewers knowledge of the art of human preservation. The Gem and Mineral section begins with a large crystal cave and leads the viewer into a collection of local and global gems and minerals. The hall of life explores the human body and features numerous interactive portions to help increase the viewers knowledge of health. The prehistoric journey leads the viewer through the progression of single cell organisms through the existence of dinosaurs. Space Odyssey offer even more hands-on activities further exploring space and the universe. Finally, my favorite section, the wild life section is the classic Nature Museum stop. This area features all the taxidermied animals you need, in realistic setting with predators and prey. The Museum also borders on city park and has a great fountain for children to play in, if the weather cooperates. For more information, ticket prices, hours, directions, visit www.dmns.org

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science is a great place to take the kids. They will learn so much and there's many hands-on activities to keep them busy.

General admission to the museum is $7.00 for adults and $3.50 for kids which is pretty reasonable compared to other science museums. If you want to see only an IMAX movie, it's $7.00 or $3.50 for kids, but the museum offers a combination discount for both the IMAX and admission for $11.00 and $7.00. Still not bad. The one in Kansas City is almost double that.

Throughout the year, the museum has special exhibits to attract people. One example is the current Vikings exhibition combined with a Vikings festival. Other exhibitions include the Ice Age and Voyages of Discovery. The Science and Nature Museum maintains permanent exhibits as well. These include anything from Explore Colorado to Egyptian Mummies.

The Phipp's IMAX is a big draw because of it's size--over four stories high.
