Description
The focus of the collection is on statuary, notably small pagodas carved in wood, bronzes, and Gigaku masks. It is an excellent opportunity to see the beginnings of the fundamental patterns in Japanese art. Famous artifacts include the Asuka era Tamamushi Shrine (portable) and the Kudara Kannon (not clear whether it was sculpted by a Korean or actually imported from Korea) and Lady Tachibana's shrine (replete with bronze Amidas) dating to early 8th century.
