Description
Parque Metropolitano, one of Quito's best viewpoints, provides a natural backdrop for the Concurso Anual de Cometas (annual kite competition) that takes place every July and August. Sponsored by the City Council, this event literally lets fly the creativity and imagination of the whole family. The competition takes place in a flat area of the park, and competitors are divided into several categories: small kids, teens and adults. The event starts with a pre-selection of the competitors and culminates with the grand fly-off, with local bands providing the after-contest entertainment.
