Great Beach and Snorkeling

Was on a cruise - skipped the excursin package and took cab straight to this beach. $10 each. Good idea. I snorkeled all day with no crowds. Even later in the day it did not get as crowded as people have reported. A very nice lady came ut to see if we wanted drinks. we rented chairs from a questionable looking guy - but no problem. The Dive shop people (who were great by the way) sold dog biscuits to feed the fish and they loved them.. Many great fish and beautiful water. Great day. It looks like you go through slums to get there, but then much of St. Thomas looks like that. I appreciated that they do not seperate the locals from the tourists. Dont be scared...the people who were talking to us had something to offer and if you did not want it they would leave you alone. Many of the people on the cruise showed up way later in the day and did not have near enough time to relax and snorkel.

Coki Beach was a great day trip. It was a $5 taxi ride from where we were staying. At first, I thought it was going to be a dump, because the taxi driver let us out in front of a mob of rastafari. But a short walk though the trees, and you are treated to a breathtaking view. The snorkeling here is great, almost better than Trunk Bay. We saw loads of fish and a 3-foot reef shark. I would recommend this place for families too, as the beach is very open, with calm waters perfect for little ones.

Coki Beach is said to be one of the best snorkeling beaches in the islands. If you do plan on visiting Coki, make sure you go early in the morning, before the hundreds of cruise-ship passengers arrive on tours. The beach will go from empty to absolutely mobbed in a matter of minutes. Coki is definitely not the place to go to relax on the beach, as there will be virtually no space to do so once people begin arriving.

The snorkeling here is quite good as far as the number of fish, but there is not a significant variety. Don't waste your money on scuba diving or a scuba tour at Coki; you'll see the same things snorkeling for a lot less money. Once you're in the water, you're surrounded by fish whether you're on the surface or at the bottom. Coki is also fairly shallow for several hundred feet offshore, so diving isn't necessary. This is a good spot for snorkeling, but come early and get your fill before the masses arrive.

Well..... after a day on St John, Coki Point was a bit overwhelming to our group. It is very busy, quite developed, and the approach road is very congested. Our vehicle was approached twice by locals trying to offer us discount coupons for various activities. We parked at the Coral World lot and jumped out to check things over. The beach was very crowded, and there were just tons of people around. Cruise ship traffic fills this beach when ships are in town, and there were lots of kids around.

Coki Beach is a calm water dive spot. The beach is located next to the Coral World Marine Park. Very clear visibilty. Coki is where you go for snorkeling or scuba diving.
