Although Bristol has no racecourse of its own, it does have Chepstow Racecourse, virtually on its doorstep, for those seeking the thrills of the turf. It's within 40 minutes drive - west on the M4, across the old Severn Bridge (there are two bridges so make sure you choose the original one), and follow the signs to Chepstow. Trains and buses also serve the area. With both flat-racing and jumps throughout the year, this is a classy racecourse, holding several prestigious events, including the Coral Welsh National. All the top riders, trainers and horses come to Chepstow, so you can be sure of seeing some fantastic racing. There are 26 races held per year (ring for details of dates); expect to pay from £15 upwards for the entrance fee and at least that again in gambling costs!
