Unlike the Titanic experience "exhibition" that has been making its way around the United States for the past few years, this is truly an "experience" that takes visitors through a journey that is designed to replicate the actual voyage embarked upon by the 123 passengers that boarded the RMS Titanic in Cobh on April 11, 1912.

Upon arrival, guests assume the identity of a real life Cobh passenger when they are given a boarding ticket complete with the passenger's name and other personal information. Attention is given relative to gender so that male guests receive the name of a male passenger and the ladies are female passengers. David and I were third class (steerage) passengers, while Ellie was one of three first class passengers . . . ironically the sister of a doctor from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. At the end of the tour, there is a large wall of containing the names and the fate of each of the 123 passengers, so you can find out what happened to "you" on Titanic.

The first stop on the interactive tour is on the pier as passengers awaited being taken by small tender to the ship which was anchored at the mouth of the Queenstown Harbour. Too large to enter, she awaited there for passengers to be brought to her. Passengers were taken in separate boats so as to not co-mingle second and third class passengers with those three in first class.

After a brief video presentation, our group of passengers enters another video presentation area out on the back deck of the ticket office. From there, we were brought back inside the building to view examples of accommodations aboard the Titanic, including a basic first class room. After this part of the presentation, visitors enter a large exhibit room with additional audio/visual presentations, actual Titanic photographs and other informational story-boards. One of the most interesting for me was the exploration video taken during an underwater exploration mission at Titanic's final resting place in the Atlantic Ocean.

Finally, the last area to visit is the wall that lists the 123 Queenstown passengers and their fate aboard Titanic. Ellie was given Miss Daisy Minahan from Green Bay, Wisconsin. She and her sister-in-law Lillian were both rescued although her brother Dr. William Minahan perished in the Atlantic Ocean that fateful night as did the two steerage passengers David and I were given.

I found the involvement in the tour, portraying an actual passenger aboard the ship to add to the overall experience of this hour-long tour. The price for the Titanic Experience Cobh is €9.50 per person, with discounts for students, seniors and families.
