Description: I've been reading and seeing pictures of Kamay ni Hesus from various social networking sites for a couple of months already and have made a mental note to plan a visit. I know The Hubby being a fan of roadtrips would not hesitate driving to Lucban, Quezon.
Anyway, we were finally presented with a chance to drive there on Good Friday. We have a 5-day Lenten break and since I am due to pop out this baby in a couple of weeks, we had to fold our plans for Bicol or Vigan.
We took the route from Rizal which is more commonly referred to as the 'backdoor to the south'. We drove to Antipolo then to Teresa and all the way to Pililia. From Pililia, we crossed the boundary to Laguna until we reached Pagsanjan where we took a quick break for meals. Then, we continued our drive for another hour to our target destination in Lucban.
The travel time was amazingly short. It took us just 3 hours to get to Quezon with this route and best of all, we didn't have to pay for expensive toll fees at SLEX. We were able to get glimpse too of the breath-taking view of Rizal province's countryside.
We weren't expecting a lot of people since it was Good Friday but upon approaching the site from about 300 meters, a line of vehicles waiting for parking spaces welcomed us. There were tons of visitors! From the main road we could already see the huge statue of Jesus and the stairway going up the image was already filled with people.
Kamay ni Hesus is a perfect place for a pilgrimage especially during lent. The 290 plus steps climb to the gigantic statue of Jesus starts at the Garden of Eden. It's quite steep so be careful going up.
If there were not too many people taking pictures and making noises, the life-sized images of the Stations of the Cross are enough to help a pilgrim or devotee in his reflections and meditation on the passion and death of Jesus Christ. It's also a good stop for visita iglesia.
There is a small church where healing masses are celebrated every Wednesdays and Saturdays by the famous healing priest, Fr. Joey Faller. No entrace fees are being collected to enter the shrine but donations are very much welcome.
Aside from being a perfect venue for a lenten retreat, the view of Mt. Banahaw and cool breeze of Lucban provide a very relaxing atmosphere.
