The Cannery is located at the foot of Columbus Ave. on Leavenworth Street. The building was built in 1907 housing the world's largest peach cannery. Being located near Fisherman's Wharf makes its transition to a waterfront marketplace of one of a kind shops a natural.The red brick building with its three levels, balconies, archways,winding walkways, and bridges takes on an European flavor and is very charming.
There are several restaurants and outdoor cafes in the courtyard to sit down and relax at as well. Free live entertainment in the courtyard varies from week to week. Unusual gourmet items and chocolate truffles are a particular favorite. Several ceramic shops with hand painted scenes by local artists are unique and make great souvenirs. Multiple shops offer arts and craft items.
For the younger set, they can build and stuff their own teddy bear and then purchase a wardrobe for the bear - also a great souvenir of their trip to The Cannery.
