The sculptures are at the former campsite Roland Dune. The park is free. Every first Sunday of the month at 14.00 hours is a guided tour. In July and August every Sunday. There are currently 13 structures on site. Eleven pieces are placed in 1999 on the occasion of the celebration of "Cultural village of Europe 1999". This title had Wijk aan Zee on their own initiative to itself under the motto 'the city is declining, the village is all the rage.
There was a temporary exhibition arranged with eleven international artists were invited to a work of art in steel. The artworks were created within four weeks. The artists made sketches of the art object that they wanted to make. Corus offered material and technical assistance to the artists and the space to the art to make. They were able to work with heavy machinery. Some used new material, others preferred to use scrap iron from the waste pits.
When it was finally decided that the permanent exhibition was in 2003, two Dutch artists were asked to do a job there.

Ten years after the opening of Sea of Steel, Queen Beatrix has unveiled a new artwork, The Gate. This artwork was created by artist Rudi van de Wint (2006 deceased). The fence was made by the sons of Rudi. It is a new entrance to the park and only an artistic function, the port does not affect the site. Queen Beatrix has always admired the art of Rudi van de Wint. He painted the ceiling of the Noordeinde Palace, murals made in the plenary hall of the House and a monument commemorating the disaster in Tenerife, what spot to see.
My opinion
I found it really fun to see. The sculptures are distributed in a dune area. Some are high on a hill and another down a hill. To see everything, you would just walk and climb some hills. One sculpture told me more than others. The sound of the sea I found it fun, there are all pieces of steel poles, as the wind noise past it. Even in rain and hail this seems to be fun, it gives other sounds. Esperanza I also beautifully made, you can clearly see that the wife is heavily pregnant. What love is all natural personal. It's nice to see that each artist made something completely different and inspirational. "A Sea of Steel" is fun to try to go, you're close to sea and land Paasdal mini golf, so you always like to combine for a longer trip.
