Dangerous for Kids!

In this day and age, you'd think people would be a little more leary about just "dropping off" their kids to roam this "family entertainment complex". We were dumb enough to let our 15 year old son go to Broadway At The Beach one afternoon with 3 of his friends to go to the movie theater. While waiting for their ride (friends parents) to pick them up (8:00pm), the boys were MUGGED by a group of 8 older Black Teens. These boys approached our son's group from the side and as they passed behind them, 3 of these black teens grabbed them from behind, holding their arms while the other 5 rambled through their pockets, stealing their money and wallets.
Obviously this group of thugs, has done this before, by the smooth way they conducted this operation. You Will never hear about this type of thing though, because Broadway At The Beach is owned by the Founding Families of Myrtle Beach, therefore ALL negative press gets squashed into oblivion.
But trust me, Broadway At The Beach is no place to let kids roam, as much as B.A.T.B. tries to portray this area as a friendly "family" environment, It IS, in fact a safehaven for Thieves, Perverts and Preditors. There is terrible security, No Cameras and A general "you're on your own" attitude. You have been warned!

MagiQuest

This is part of the Broadway at the Beach area and is a LOT of fun. It is a bit silly, running around a room decorated to look like a fantasy forest carrying a plastic wand aiming it at symbols on the walls and other surfaces. However, it beats playing a video game.

Not too expensive either. You pay once for a wand and then hourly play, each next hour cheaper than the previous one. You can go in as a spectator without a wand as well and pay only the hourly rate.

The point is to choose an adventure you wish to accomplish, like slaying the dragon or locating the unicorn. There are several to choose from. Each adventure has several quests you must complete before getting to the final task. Any gold you collect with your wand that isn't used for a quest can be redeemed in the gift shop for "prizes".

I'm 31 and had fun; my 9-year-old niece, 6-year-old nephew, and 16-year-old nephew enjoyed it thoroughly.

This was a great way to spend an evening and grab dinner with the family. It's a well-organized area of shops, restaurants, and entertainment, all in a modern costal themed environment.

Stuff for kids, grown-ups, and in between. There's a great mini-golf called Dragon's Lair; an interactive game called MagiQuest for all those "Harry Potter" types. Plenty of shops and food, like Landry's, Johnny Rocket's, etc. And a nice - though short - Grucci firework's display.

Now, being a man, I am not much into shopping, but this is a shopping mall for everybody, male and female, young and old. What you have here is shopping (about 100 specialty stores), dining (20 restaurants, including Planet Hollywood, Nascar Cafe, and Hard Rock), 15 attractions, 10 nightclubs, and even 3 hotels (Holiday Inn, Fairfield and Hampton) on a site spread 350 acres around a large area of water. The 350 acres can be a bit confusing because some of the attractions need to be driven to and are not really close enough to walk to in the busy traffic. We went back a few times while we were there because there really is so much to do. They have a mini golf area if some want to have fun while others may want to shop, or Ripleys Aquarium, Nascar Speed Park, a movie theater, and plenty more. We did do the Dragons Lair golf (only one of the two courses however), the Nascar Speed Park and a few of the restaurants while going there a few times during our stay.

It is a nice place to go with a group of people because everybody can go their own way. We were able to keep in touch with cell phones and decide when we wanted to meet up again. Just make sure to be specific about where you are; we found some stores very similar and there are two Ben and Jerry's ice-cream shops. This was also quite a bit of exercise, walking around the water in the center and we even fed their ducks and fish which were very plump to say the least. It was amusing to watch the fish jump over each other to get the pellets available along the decks and walkways. For even more up-to-date information, go to their website. Here that is: http://www.broadwayatthebeach.com/index.html

One more nice thing about this attraction is that if you stay on one of the beach hotels, you can catch a bus to the mall, so if you want to find a favorite watering hole, it will allow everyone to have a few drinks without worrying about how to get home or if you don't want to rent a car it makes life a little easier. Our resort (South Beach Resort) actually has a shuttle van that goes there at various times throughout the day.

Great! Not only some great shops - it is a great place for children. Lots of things to do. My grandchildren loved feeding the ducks and fish. It was at Christmas season, so the decorations were in place. The children loved each and every one. Miniature Golf is available for the older children to enjoy while Mom and Grandma shop. The younger children enjoyed the aquarium with their Dads. There were great shops with many items for Christmas gifts. Enjoyed finding unusual items. Granddaughters loved Build A Bear. Fountains are placed throughout the area and are beautiful. There were singers singing Christmas carols. Lots of excellent places to eat.
