Walk the Bowl

  • February 2, 2004
  • Rated 5 of 5 by mtk from Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania
Zagreb is situated in a "bowl" surrounded by mountains. If you find yourself there, make sure you take time to go for a walk in these mountains, as the nature is absolutely, positively STUNNING, especially during the summer (June/July/August), but also during the fall, when the many colors make the mountainside look like a canvas for Monet or even during the winter, when the mountainside is covered in its blanket of snow, absorbing the sound of your walking.

Although there are no hiking trails per say, the many small back roads leading into the mountains are well connected and maps are readily available to help you plan your walk, whether you're going for the extreme or the leisurely walk.

Make sure to take note of what appears on the maps as forest paths, as these will lead you to unsurpassed beauty in sudden, open meadows with swaying grass or carpets of flowers. And although may of them will take you there and only there, it's well worth the extra little walk to get to see these. In other words, feel free to wander because then you'll see the most beautiful nature the Zagreb mountains have to offer and it is surely something to behold.
