At night, the strip, or Atlantic Avenue, turns into Beachstreet USA. Staged between 17th and 25th Streets on Atlantic Avenue, performers of all types take to the streets for completely free shows. There's plenty of police presence so no need to feel afraid about having your kids out at night.
Shows take place every night starting on Thursdays from 8pm to 11:30pm and then Fridays and Saturdays from 8pm to 12am. We took in shows with a great magician, some jazz performers, and a lady who did balloon animals and facepaint.
The Fire Department was also on hand to tell kids what they did and let them peek in the fire engine and take pictures.
Only one word of caution. The magic show was disrupted only for a few moments by some drunk (and possibly high)guy who got mad the magician wouldn't let him actually hold the playing cards. He started cursing and grabbing himself while his friend pulled him away. The magician urged him to stop stating that there were kids there. I only bring this up to caution you that although there are police, there are still a fair number of bars in the area and it's easy to walk out and mix in with folks who actually have some sense. So don't let your guard totally down.
