What I saw was the second biggest carnival in Greece, the first place taken by Patra. It is the start of the spring and marks that there are only 40 or 50 days left 'til Easter. The place that travel guides describe as a nice little quiet town with sweet old stone houses turned into a real party place. During daytime there is a parade of 200 thousand costumed people and made-up trucks. There is a lot of music, noise, laughter, confetti, and face paint. ;) If you are not keen on standing in the crowd and cheer for the parade you can choose sitting in the crowd in a cafe and enjoy the cold coffee, the frappe that Greeks love so much. Nighttime is for real partying -- the whole town turns into a club.
