We walked miles of the beachfront this April. The beaches were beautiful - fine sand and lots of shells (whelks, conchs, apple murex, olives, and even a painted tulip!). You'll need your beach shoes in some areas because of the amount of broken shell. It was wonderful to see so many types of shells and such a peaceful, un-crowded beach. On our last day, we even saw dolphins about 20 feet out working the shore for fish.
The ONLY drawback is the no-see-ums: be sure to put on your insect repellant if you go out at dawn or dusk to hit the low-tide shelling. You don't feel them biting you, but I had welts that showed up days later and itched for a week!
