Rio Savegre

This is a small river with fast flowing, clear water. The trout tend to remain in the deep pools, at the head of the current or in protected slower moving water. There are times when it is best to fish the faster water with bead head nymphs. Approaching the pools carefully, the angler is successful with few casts and might be able to get as many as three fish from every pool. They are very wild fish and scare easily if they see any movement. Best to use dark clothes and avoid any bright colored hats. The river is not difficult to walk, having good trails alongside the river and the big pools are not crowded with trees or obstructions. However, one does have to watch the backcast and mastering the roll cast is a great aid to success.

The # 2 > 4 rod is preferred and light spinning with 6 lb. line proves a winner for the larger fish.

The best pools are found above the Hotel Savegre and in the pools a mile above the waterfall. The trout generally are small, but 6 lb. fish have been hooded and released though the average will probably be about 9 inches. The daily catch by an experienced angler can number 30 trout and every one of them will be a great satisfaction because of their fight and tricky ability.
