Barge Canal Tow Path

There are flat walkways on both sides of the barge canal, the waterway-interstate that crosses New York State. These are gravel or paved paths right along the canal, originally trod down for the mules that were towing barges along the canal. The paths are for bikes and pedestrians only, so you won't have to wrangle with cars at all! You can get on or off at any point you want -there's many bridges to cross the canal - some of which are beautiful lift bridges. You can also stop and watch boats pass through the many locks along the route.
