Town and the Sites

Puerto Vallarta is nothing like Cancun, and if you are looking for wild, crazy times, this is not the place. PV is very laid-back and romantic. There is a lot to see and do in the city. The restaurants are everywhere, and I will discuss a couple of them in a later post. The bus trip into town is an adventure if you're in Nuevo Vallarta, as it takes two separate buses to get here, but it is worth the hassle. Once you get on a bus into town or central, then you ride it until the bus takes a hard left turn. Get off here, and you will only be a block from the Malicon (sidewalk next to beach). This is where we started most of our in-town adventures. From the Malicon, you pass many shops and restaurants. There is the usual Hard Rock Cafe and even a Hooters, along with the No Name Cafe and many more trying to get you to come eat with promises of two-for-one drinks.

The timeshare people will constantly harrass you if you let them. I would tell them I was leaving in the morning, and they would not persist. There are markets everywhere, some in buildings, some in open squares with gazebos in the middle. Don't miss the church; it is really cool. Once you get past the Malicon, you need to keep heading down the beach until you cross a bridge. This is the old town area, or the Romantic Zone. This area is a must-see, as you can eat right on the beach if you like, or you can visit Senor Frogs, etc. The crowd here is older than that found in Cancun, but there is stuff for people of all ages. Check it out; you won't be sorry.
