Yelapa Boat Cruise

The boat tour was for one day. They feed you breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It went to different parts of Puerto Vallarta. I got to ride a horse to a hidden waterfall for $5 USD.

Tour Jelapa

Take a small boat across from the mainland of Puerto Vallarta to a small island called Jelapa accessible only by boat, where you will depart and meet many of the locals (population 80). We were greeted by a local who brings along his pet iguana, which is about 3 feet long! I saw some young children playing along the trail and they saw my big camera and wanted me to take their pictures. They were so cute and so sweet and the pictures came out so beautifully. You next hike up to a huge waterfall. There you can swim, explore, relax, and see all the exotic wildlife. Next you are taken to an even more remote beach on Jelapa, where you can boogie board, snorkel, and relax on the beach while a group of locals prepare a traditional Mexican lunch is for you. The food is excellent, the locals are so friendly, and the exotic wildlife of parrots and beautiful fish are at your fingertips. It's the trip of a lifetime.

If you'd like to see a different side of PV, take the Yelapa water taxi from the Los Muertos pier. It's not a trip for those with back problems and is probably best recommended to the young-at-heart crowd, but we found it really fascinating. Yelapa is a town south of PV that only got electricity two years ago and is not accessible by car. Tour boats go there, but if you want an inexpensive way to spend the day there, take the water taxi for US$18 roundtrip. The boat travels fast over choppy water, so get ready to hold on tight! One of the locals will offer to escort you to the waterfall. It's worth the walk to see it because you're also getting a tour of the town. We really enjoyed it!
