Arbor Lodge

Arbor Lodge is a marvelously preserved antebellum mansion. Admission is only $3.00 for adults and includes the mansion and the outbuildings where buggies and vehicles from the day are stored.

Once the home of J. Sterling Morton, the founder of Arbor Day, the house testifies to the wealth and station in life that this man held. My favorite room in the mansion was a sitting room that was more like a greenhouse than anything else. Wonderful marble and rich woods are everywhere in the house as well as the one of a kind imports that Morton acquired for his mansion. Of course, as with many mansions built in this era, there is a one-lane bowling alley in the basement.

This is a great tour to take. Morton would have made it onto the 'Lives of the Rich and Famous' for sure.
