Historial Nassau

We walked up to the Tourist Information Center for information about a tour after deboarding the ship. A person at the counter walked us over to a tour that already started. Our guide was nice, but I had some difficulty understanding her accent.

We walked around the area of town where she pointed out the buildings and their significance, or in one instance, where a building once was and only a plague remains. he government buildings are distinctively painted with pink exterior walls and white trim back from the old British colonial times. We walked into a few buildings where laws are made or discussed, a court building, and an old library, and passed by the Government House from a distance.

It's good to do this once if you haven't seen this before. And it's definitely much cheaper than any tour you may purchase onboard.

The Historical Sights of Nassau

On this particular tour, several of us disembarked the cruise ship just in time for our tour. We left right from the dock in a mini-van style vehicle. Although the driver (and guide) wasn't too friendly, we still saw a lot of wonderful highlights and truly discovered the Bahamian experience.

We drove though the downtown shopping market, up through the hills to get great views of the water and ship, toured several forts, learned about the Queen's staircase and the british history in relation to the Bahamas and better yet, mingled with and spoke to one another and native Bahamanians.

I took several photographs (more than I can paste here). To see more, please visit randomphotos.
