My first weekend in India, I got to experience The Festival of Colors. It all started at about 10am and lasted all day. My coworkers and I were the first guests to show up at the hotel's version of the celebration. They had little squirt guns that you fill with paint and shoot it at each other. There was also powder paint that you pick up with your hand and you either rub it is someones face or hare or you can just throw it at them. One thing I loved about this festival was the people. Everybody was so friendly, and I felt like I had known them for years.
At one point during the festival, a small group of four people showed up from nowhere with drums, and they started playing music. Everybody then started to dance, and we danced all day. While we were dancing, to keep things cool, they were spraying water on us, so it was a very wet, colorful celebration. During the whole time, there was an open bar, and they didn't water down the drinks. Not only that, but you didn't even have to ask for one, and you already had one. It was great. I love this celebration. It was a wonderful welcome to India. I do hope I get to experience this festival again.
