This shows the humorous side of history. In 1777 General Washington commanded his troops to dig trenches and construct large raised embankments. This was done because the crest of the hill overlooked the town and would give them a strategic advantage. The earthworks became known as 'Fort Nonsense' because as legend has it, Washington had the soldiers contruct this not for strategic purposes, but to give them something to do.
This is a great place for kids to stretch their legs and run. Not very exciting, but what a great story.
