It's an odd sight to be driving in the flat desert and suddenly out of nowhere see hundreds of international planes, just parked. This trip there were KLM 747-400s, Hawaiian DC10s, Virgin 747s, USAirways 737s, Ansett 767s, Swiss Air MD11s and many more. Your first question may be, why is there a huge international airport here in the middle of nowhere?
It is a surprise how close you can get to the aircraft. It's a great place to take some fun photos of your family sitting in a jet engine.
I feel a bit sad seeing all these grand airliners just sitting here, waiting for the scrap heap or waiting for their airlines to need them once again. I wonder if I have ever flown on one of these parked ladies. I wonder what exotic places they took people like me who love to travel? It's the kind of place that you wonder and imagine.
Mojave Airport does some testing of new airplanes and new models. I guess they feel if they don't fly, you are away from a populated area!
It's a fun side trip. If you enjoy airlines you will enjoy the stop. Even if you don't care about these planes it's a wonderful stop for some fun photos!
