Many college towns try where Madison succeeds. The ~5 Block street which connects the University to the Capitol building is full of dozens and dozens of shops and boutiques of every kind. This is a dream for a shopper who likes uniqueness, and feeling the bustle around them. (Well, bustling for the Midwest.) There are many good restaurants along State Street as well.
