Concerts on the Square is one of Madison's favorite outdoor summer events. They've been held annually since 1983 every Wednesday from the last week in June until the first week of August. Draws over 120,000 people annually.
The free concert starts at 7pm and crowdgoers come as early as they can.
3pm you can start placing blankets on the lawn
5pm the food and beverage booths open
5pm the kids' area opens
the music starts at 7.
No matter what time you get there the lawn is huge and you can always find a spot.
If you want to eat during the concert there are boxed suppers available. (check out the website for details) Favorite restaurants such as the Casbah, White Horse Inn, Sukho Thai and Famous Dave's sell a few different meals. And the Chocolate Shoppe is on hand to sell ice cream and Curt's Popcorn offers popcorn and caramel corn. And there are also dinner tables that serve food. But reservations are a must and must be made months in advance.
The Kids' Area offers a different activity every week - sometimes making a large mural, trying out different instruments or interactive dancing.
Come with a blanket and a picnic and sit out and enjoy the music. The Concert on the Square is a wonderful treat for all and a pride of Madison.
