My favorite beach was on the northwestern tip of the island, a secluded area where I actually had to park and then hike through dense vegetation down precipitous cliffs to reach the water. The most secluded and expensive resorts are in this area, and it looks like there's room for a few more, so if anybody wants to venture into the tropical resort industry, I'd be happy to offer my expertise as a site consultant.
At another beach resort, the setting was ideal for a photo of me on my scooter. I asked a local to take the picture, and he said, "Sure, for fifty ringit." For a split second I was taken aback, but then I realized that this was my first-hand taste of the jovial teasing I had only witnessed before. We both chuckled, and then he took the picture for me. "Where you from," he asked. "San Francisco," I replied, "California." He looked at his friend with a smirk, then said "Ah, California … Monica Lewinsky." They laughed and laughed. It's nice to know my home is famous for something.
