It took forever to get our meals. In the meantime, we hardly saw our waiter, let alone got an excuse or apology from him. My soup in a bread bowl was made from very stale bread. He took the bread portion off of my bill, but then he disappeared without an explanation.
We had three bottles of our own wine. He charged us with a $15 apiece corkage charge. Since he wasn't around, we uncorked one bottle of wine ourselves. He didn't even offer to pour the remainder of the bottle. He never touched that bottle of wine, but still charged us $15.
One of my friends had a steak dish. After finishing much of the dish, he found a small orange crab claw under something else. When he showed it to our waiter, he took it, but never apologized or said he was sorry.
After he delivered our very tardy food, he disappeared again. We asked one of the staff, Hector, to get us some lemon for the fish and some more bread. He happily did this immediately. He also gave us more water. We saw more of Hector than we did our waiter. This is why Hector received a tip and our waiter didn't.
After he realized he wasn't going to get a tip, he followed us out into the parking lot and glared at us as we walked and chatted to our cars.
I know that not all of the problems we had that night were his fault, but he did nothing, except credit my bill for $3, to mitigate the problems.
We had a good meal at a decent price in a decent atmosphere the night before at the Greenhouse Restaurant in South Lake Tahoe. We would recommend that restaurant.
