Downtown Alive - Lafayette, Louisiana

  • May 1, 2003

Downtown Alive happens every Friday from March through July starting at 6pm. There are excellent live performances by Louisiana musicians. People mill around with adult beverages. Beer and soft drinks are sold from stands at the edge of the park or you can wander into a bar nearby for something else. People in the crowd chat, dance, and generally have a good time.

After the band stops playing at 8pm is a good time to go to one of the downtown restaurants for a bite. Most bars on Jefferson Street have live music until closing at 2am.

This is a family thing with people pushing baby carriages, as well as a singles hanging out and looking at one another.

A super good time.

In the spring, Lafayette downtown becomes a party on Friday nights. Starting at 5:30, locals converge in the streets for music, dancing and food. A stage is set up for performers on a street corner and the party begins! The actual location differs each Friday, but it’s always downtown somewhere. Usually the performers are Cajun and zydeco, but sometimes they have rock, country or blues bands. It’s a really fun time and a great way to mingle with the locals and see how they party.
