Kauai Scuba and Sacred Seas

While on vacation in Kauai, I received a recommendation to use Sacred Seas for my scuba diving adventure. Shore dives are popular in Kauai due to winter high winds, and most coral reefs and sea life are near shore. I was pleased to find that Sacred Seas is a high quality, personal service, scuba dive operation. Julie, my dive master provided a detailed dive presentation, including a drawing of the dive site, along with photos of the sea life we might encounter. For the first dive, I got to try the scooter propulsion device on the first dive to take a quick tour of the Koala landing dive spot. The scooter allowed me to enjoy the dive without expending a lot of energy, and to cover more area. This was my first experience using the scooter and it was a blast.

Sacred Seas has a real focus on personal service. Sacred Seas takes groups of 4 maximum which adds to the attention to detail. During the dive, Julie used her writing slate to describe the various sea life and identified with hand signals, rare sea life. The relaxed pace, and small group size made for a very enjoyable dive experience. I would definitely use this dive operation again.

We did a dive trip to Niihau. It was spectacular. This isn't for the new diver, but is really great for experienced divers. There are three dives and you see monk seals, sharks, and lots of great fish. The crew of the boats are really nice and helpful. Make sure you don't get sea sick, the ride back is somewhat challenging.

We dove Tunnels Beach, Princeville Hotel beach, and Koloa Landing in Poipu. It is incredible! The easiest diving is Princeville and Koloa Landing. Do your research before you go, then ask questions at the dive shops to get specific details. The visibility while we were here (late June, early July 2005) was from 30–50 feet. The water temperature was 77F, which is chilly. I wore a 3mm farmer jane and jacket. A skin is really a must-not because of coral, but lava rocks at entry/exit points. Diversity of fish is wonderful and lots of turtles!
