Fun Place to Stop and Buy Wine

The Volcano Winery is a fun place to stop at if you are on your way to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. It is located about 3 miles south of Volcano Village, off Highway 11, between the 10 and 31 mile markers. Don't forget to bring a warm jacket because it gets very cold and damp at Volcano Village. The Volcano Winery carries some of the most unusual wines produced anywhere in the world and it specializes in tropical fruit blends and honey wine. Its tropical fruit wines are a blend of different types of local fruit like the yellow guava and the exotic jaboticaba berry which are mixed with traditional wine grapes and transformed into delicious wines. Volcano Winery has its own fourteen acre vineyard with its own Symphony grapes. The winery's grapes are grown in the vineyard and harvested, fermented, bottled and sold on the property. Their signature honey wine is made with 100 percent Macadamia Nut honey, yeast, and water (no grapes). Volcano winery sells its wines online also and they can be shipped to some states. They also have wine tasting available daily. The salespersons are really friendly and knowledgeable about their products. They also sell other unique gift items that you can take home to your friends and family. The winery is open daily from 10am - 5:30pm. To get to the Volcano Winery,

The Volcano Winery makes six different wines. I'm a very picky wine drinker and only liked one of the wines. For a different experience, they do make some wines using the jaboticaba Brazilian tree grapes which grow one the bark of the tree instead of a vine. The wine tasting is free daily. They do not accept large tours. The gift shop had some nice take home gifts.10am to 5:30pm; (808) 967-7772 www.volcanowinery.com

If you are in the volcano area, stop at the Volcano Winery. Do the wine-tasting, and then buy! We bought macademia nut and guava wine. They are both delicious. The prices are steep, but these wines are a novelty. They pack the bottles for you in heavy Styrofoam packs, which you can check in with your luggage and they won't break!

Their phone number is 808/967-7772, and their website is at www.volcanowinery.com.
