Weekend camping

On Thursday afternoon, 2nd May 2002, we decided to camp at Harithi. There were five cars in convoy: us and four other families. The drive towards Taif up to the escarpment was pretty pleasant and uneventful till we arrived at the builders' yard. From then on, we followed the map carefully, as we didn't want to get lost like the first time we were there.

The path to Harithi campsite was very rough and steep. It was quite exciting and scary at the same time.

We quickly put our tents up and started the BBQ, as it was 5:30pm already. As the night went, the temperature was going down slowly. All of us put on our warm sweaters and started the bonfire once it was dark. We had a nice BBQ dinner and enjoyed a very cool (15deg C) night. This time we even brought marshmallows!

At night we slept quite well due to the low temperature, but we still woke up very early, around 6:00am. We had coffee for breakfast and then we were packed by 8:00am to continue our journey.

We decided to drive up to the entry to the camel trail and the escarpment. We parked our car at the point where we thought we would walk to the escarpment. But we were wrong! Anyway, we found the camel trail from talking in broken Arabic with a man who takes care of the roses farm. The camel trail was quite far and we took the wrong and steep rocky path to the escarpment.

After a tiring walk, we had lunch under a tree where our car was parked. Oh, Jacques' car tyre blew up on our way to finding the trail.

Everyone thought the trip to Harithi was very exciting and nice. We had a great time and all the cars were doing well.
