Gwangju is known as the city of art in Korea and Art Street is where you can see this reputation in full.

To get there, take a cab and "Shin-nay Y.M.C.A." This will get you to the downtown area. Once there cross the steet to the K.E.B. Bank and keep walking down until you reach the police station. Art Street is on your left.

There are many stores here that specialize in art supplies. Gwangju is especially famous for their brushes which are of high quality and high price. There are also many galleries with traditional and modern paintings. Also available here are ceramics, including Korea's high quality celadon green pottery.

I have found some nice quality paintings and hand-painted fans here. I also enjoy the tea and pottery shop here. The owners are nice and will offer freen tea to you. The pottery is gorgeous as well. I have also found paintings for 10,000 won (about 9 dollars) here. If you enjoy Asian art, this is the is a wonderful place to shop and also be able to admire beautiful pieces of art.
